In 1973 one the first IROC races held in the US was run with 1973 Porsche 911s.
This build and tune is a rough B-classed approximation if that car.

My intention was to build, tune, and paint ALL of the cars to be run in these informal races.
But screw that,.... paint them yourself.

The tune is available now as “IROC FINAL” and “IROC FINAL2”

Please keep the paint job simple, with a solid color, minimal sponsors, and place contrasting numbers centered on the hood, doors, and rear.
Use these pictures for reference.

Claim you color number combo below.
Feuerdog
48
Orange

I’ve some Forza 7 data to work with now, so I’ve been working on some tuning solutions.
There are essentially two calculators I’ll be refining.

FORZATUNE
The first is a slight set of revisions to the existing ForzaTune6 app to keep it fresh and functional. It is currently OK, but it does need a little tweaking to make it better.

ADVANCED TUNER
The second calculator is what I’ll call the Advanced Tuner. Without going into too many details, this tuner is a ground up rebuild in my typical calculator tuning process, and includes a fairly wide selection of custom adjustability to suit the individual users personal tastes.

Want to test some cars on the default setting Advanced Tuner?
Post your car details here and I’ll share what I’ve been working on this past couple weeks.

Weight?
Distribution?
RWD FWD AWD?

BMW M3 ‘97 FE

Not much wiggle room on this build so the tune should work with most builds.
I built with no rear aero, minimized front.

Driving notes:
I ran 6 laps of the ring, posted a top 10 time.
The build ran well, maybe just a hair on the loose side of full stable. The rear would power loose if you attacked too hard. Not unmanageable but drifting isn’t fast.
The rear wing might be just the trick to lock it down.
My gearing was a little tall too, I barely needed 6th. Shortening it by a couple tenths would help all-round performance, but I’d surely back the diff down to 50-60% and add the rear wing.
The front end felt a little muted at speed also, but a small tweak to caster would fix that.

I've worked out an interesting race format that I'd like to try with 3 cars built to a very simple spec. I'd like to do a test night tonight to get the cars balanced in, and explain and practice the format I've come up with.

Time:
Wednesday, 8/30/17, 9:00 PM CST

The Cars:
1954 Mercedez 300 SL
1954 Jaguar XK120
1961 Jaguar E-Type

The cars have very simple builds, with no tuning parts attached, so I will have the tunes hosted.

The Format:
1 Reverse lap
1 Forward Special Stage lap
1 Forward Normal lap

It works like this:
To get the time scoring to reflect a total stage time including what are essentially 3 laps in one...

1.) At the start of the race, DO NOT cross the start line

2.) We will do a reverse lap of the track as a practice lap

3.) At the end of the reverse practice lap, we will turn around and do a practice lap of the forward special stage lap, which will include a piece of track that is not normally used.

4.) At the end of the special stage practice lap, we will NOT cross the start line, but form a queue just before the start line, which we will be individually launching from in intervals.

5.) When it's your turn to launch, you will drive over the start line, beginning your first lap according to the game.

6.) Upon crossing the start line, you will do a U-turn and start your reverse lap.

7.) At the end of your reverse lap, you will cross the finish line, turn 180, and begin your forward special stage lap.

8.) At the end of your forward special stage lap, you will race past the finish line like normal, and begin your forward normal lap.

9.) At the end of your forward normal lap, and upon crossing the finish line, the game will trigger the end of lap one, giving you a total stage time of your 3 combined laps (reverse, forward special stage, forward normal stage).

10.) We will race a few tracks in this manner each night, and whomever has the lowest accrued time will be the winner.

It sounds a little complicated, but I promise you it's not that difficult. It's actually a pretty slick way to trick Forza into keeping track of a total time of bundled laps.

Liveries:
Back in the day of amateur rallying, the liveries were extremely simple.

1.) A large vinyl of your race number on both left and right sides

2.) An event vinyl - Search "EXOR Popolac" / Description "FVR50s"

3.) A registration decal - Search "EXOR Popolac / Description "FVR###" (in vinyl editor, cover up ### with your race number)

Livery Examples:

XK120 Front Bumper

E-Type Top Hood

E-Type Side

E-Type Rear Bumper

Car Spec:

Buick GNX

Spec details can be found here: http://bit.ly/2ojuthe

Aside from being a Buick, it conforms pretty closely to what the cars of the era would have been. Tire width and weight are really close to RL. The engine displacement is wrong and the car is probably down 100-150hp compared to the real thing since I didn't want to put it into S class and the 7.0 swap runs a carb and sounds the best.

It's a surprisingly fun build to drive.

Note:
You can build a car with 550hp that won't meet the room specs (don't ask me how but a few of us have managed to do it). Forza does a lot of rounding. Please double check that your car will be legal in a multiplayer lobby before race night.

car limited to spec
TCS, ABS, damage(?) Off
Fuel and tire wear ON
Rolling Start

Race nights will consist of qualifying (no collisions, 3-5s starting intervals) and with grid order set to manual. For double race nights the second race will have its grid order determined by reversing the finishing order of the first race.

Yellow Flags:

Sometimes there's a little too much rubbing when racing. On those occasions, a yellow flag can be called.
A yellow flag requires that there be an accident which causes one or more cars to come to a complete halt (or near as can be expected).

Single car incidents due to driver error do not warrant a yellow flag.

During a yellow flag all racers must slow to a speed of 60mph and maintain an orderly single file formation while the field re-forms. On-track passing is not allowed during yellow flag laps with the exception of cars that are attempting to un-lap themselves.

Cars which have been lapped are allowed to un-lap themselves and rejoin at the rear of the field in an organized and courteous manner.

Pitstops are allowed during yellow flags and pitting cars must rejoin the at the rear of the field in an organized and courteous manner.

Lapped cars which chose to pit are not allowed to un-lap themselves and must rejoin at the rear of the field in an organized and courteous manner.

Cars that are un-lapping themselves or rejoining at the rear of the field are allowed to exceed the 60mph speed limit until they have caught up.

After the field has regrouped the race will restart when the leader next crosses the finish line.

Yellow Flags cannot be called within 3 laps of the finish.

Please review the Rules of Clean Racing. While not everything is relevant to Forza, it provides a good basis for courteous and clean racing .

Remember, the race isn't won in the first corner! That being said, sometimes things happen and restart may be called if there are a significant number of cars involved in a first lap incident.

Points:

Pos.

Points

1

175

2

170

3

165

4

160

5

155

6

150

7

146

8

142

9

138

10

134

Full points progression is available on the Results spreadsheet.

Points are awarded down to 20th place and the points structure reflects how points were awarded during the early Winston Cup era. Full points will be awarded for each race. Race nights with a single race are awarded double points (Road America, Daytona Night).

5 bonus points will be awarded for each of the following items:

Pole position

fastest certified lap

fastest non-certified lap

Liveries

Please have a livery on race night. It can be something from the storefront or an original creation. Bonus karma points for having a livery which looks period appropriate.

Livery Requirements:

If you're making an original livery make sure you have your race number on both the driver and passenger side doors as well as the roof.
I've created a contingency vinyl package:

All the sponsors on the door and front quarter panel are up in the storefront as a complete set (minus the Goodyear logo which is a manufacturer logo). You'll need both IGNASCAR and ignascarL. Search my gamertag RenoWrench and you should be able to find them (YMMV because Forza search really sucks)

Feel free to run more sponsors or various combinations of these sponsors. I know there are a bunch of them in the storefront.
