Film Friday: V8 supercars in Austin

This weekend marks the U.S. debut of the V8 Supercars series at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, TX.  What are V8 Supercars?  Click the link to find out.

For lack of a better comparison, V8 Supercars can be considered the Australian equivalent of NASCAR.  Like NASCAR, they are similar in overall appearance to a road going car but in fact they are tube frame race cars with a 5.0 liter V8 engine.  With a relatively limited aero package and  a minimum weight of 3100lbs they can be an handful, especially on the tight race tracks and street circuits of Australia.

Rick Kelly from the Nissan Motorsport team walks us therough what it takes to build a modern V8 Supercar.

Is it possible to watch too many videos of V8 Supercars jumping curbs? Probably not.

While it’s doubtful that we’ll see a lot of curb hopping action in Austin, I have no doubt there will be some really impressive racing when the flag drops in Austin on Saturday.
