Today saw the official inauguration at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello of the “Ferrari Supercar. Technology. Design. Myth” exhibition which includes the new LaFerrari, unveiled just a couple of days ago at the Geneva Motor Show, as well as all of the other limited edition special series cars that helped establish the Prancing Horse legend.

Opened by Chairman Luca di Montezemolo, “Ferrari Supercar. Technology. Design. Myth” retraces the story of all of the limited edition special series models built by Ferrari, starting with the 250 GTO, including an example of the 1964 version, and continuing with the 1984 GTO, the F40, the F50 and the Enzo, all the way up to the new model which has been named the LaFerrari as it epitomises the sweeping excellence for which the Maranello marque is renowned. Parallel to the limited edition road cars will be the Formula 1 cars that inspired Ferrari’s design in various eras, as well as special track and competition-oriented models, such as the GTO Evoluzione, the F40 Competizione, the 599XX and the FXX.

2013 Copo Camaro, Yenko Camaro history, and the ZL-1
The original Copo Camaro is the stuff of legends. It is how highly collectible cars like the Yenko Camaros were born. The formula is simple, you take a Camaro add the L72 big block and you create an instant legend. The Yenko’s are part of a rare time in GM’s history when things like that were possible. At the end of the day only 201 of these rare beauties were ever produced. Part two of the story is COPO 9560 cars ordered by Fred Gibb Chevrolet of La Harpe, Illinois. The idea here was to take the ZL-1 engine which was made for drag racing and stuffing it into the 69 Camaro. This made for an even rarer treat then the Yenko as only 69 of these were ever produced. Probably due to it’s $4,000 extra price tag for the engine alone. That brings us to today and this little thing.

This is GM’s modern day COPO Camaro. Hit the jump to find out all about it.

Sunday Commentary: hot rod edition
Sunday Commentary week in review
by Jason
One of the challenges of every Sunday morning is figuring out what to cover in the Sunday Commentary. Obviously the week in review kind of takes care of itself but looking forward can be challenging. We are a small buy mighty staff here at IG and with basically just two “journalists” doing all the writing we have to be picky about what we cover so that our time is used wisely. Spring has sprung here in the Midwest, for today anyway. I hear there is more snow coming tomorrow, but with warm weather to return by mid week. I was out and about this weekend doing a little classic car chasing and came up pretty empty. It’s still early though.
So this week I’m going to talk about some upcoming shows and events we will be at, some Dodge Viper news, our Formula One fantasy league, and I’ll garnish it all with a bunch of hot rod pictures. Hit the jump for all that and more.
