Project Angrier 1969 Dodge Charger

The 1969 Dodge Charger is an icon. It almost seems stupid to type that because if you are reading this you obviously know that. The Dodge Charger Daytona of course came and took Nascar by storm. Everyone wants a Charger Daytona but of course those are impossible to find these days. That means a lot of guys are turning regular 69 Chargers into Daytonas. I know, this is pretty taboo for some but let’s not kid ourselves. You have to have huge deep pockets to get a real Daytona and when you do find one and shell out that kind of money you will not be driving it hard. Definitely not huge smokey burnouts getting sideways hard. I completely approve of someone cloning the Charger Daytona to have as a driver as long as they aren’t going around telling people it’s a real Daytona. That brings us to Project Angrier.

The guys at the Smoking Tire do some cool things occasionally. Obviously being investment bankers before they were automotive journalists help on their budget and allow them to do a little more then we can here at IG with no budget. So I don’t mind linking to their videos occasionally. Especially when it’s a big black Dodge Charger Daytona clone. To check out some serious Mopar tire smoking awesomeness just hit the jump and push play.

Sunday Commentary: Easter Sunday

Hopefully your Easter Sunday was full of family, friends, and good food. I realize not everyone celebrates Easter that reads IG and for those of you that this was just another Sunday hopefully it was warm and sunny and full of driving. No matter what Sunday was for you Spring is in full effect in a lot of the country and if you were out here in central Illinois this weekend you surely noticed that the hot rods, classics, and muscle cars were out in full force too. I am not aware of too many official get togethers this weekend but there was a lot of action out on the roads. It was great to see. Of course here in farm country the farmers were out in force too so remember to keep your eyes open for them and slow down if you see them.
2015 Dodge Challenger R/T
This week was largely about Mopar here at IG. With the new Challenger and Charger getting launched that took up a lot of our week. Hopefully you got a chance to watch the reveal live on Thursday right here, but if not we had plenty of pics of the new Challenger, and we’ll do something on the Charger soon. The week wasn’t all about the Challenger and Charger though. Let’s take a look at what else we did.

2015 Dodge Challenger

Clockwise starting from top: 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT, 2015 DodHopefully you got to check out the live reveal of the 2015 Dodge Challenger here on IG today. If not don’t worry I’ve got all the info for you. The Challenger on the surface is largely the same. Why mess with a good thing I suppose? Dodge er SRT says the Challenger’s front end is based on the 1971 Dodge Challenger while the rear based on the 1972 Dodge Challenger. Here’s to hoping the next generation doesn’t use the 1972’s frowning front end.

The car will come with three engines the V6 for the ladies. The 5.7L Hemi making 375hp that currently sits as the mid range model and engine. Then the big dog 6.4L Hemi pumping out 485hp. That’s a nice little bump from the out going model. Dodge says they have done extensive weight saving measures like using more aluminium. The result? The car weighs slightly more then the last years Challenger. What the hell? How did they do that? I guess if I were to have a gripe is that the car already is too heavy and I was hoping to see it shed a few hundred pounds. That’s ok though. The car is pretty sweet otherwise.

Tons of info. 26 pictures, and one huge press release after the jump.

American Muscle Car: The Plymouth Road Runner

It looks like it is going to be a Mopar kind of week here on IG. I’m sure you won’t mind. Yesterday we had the fastest new Challenger in the world. Tomorrow you can watch the live reveal of the brand new Dodge Challenger. (will the current Challenger still be called the new Challenger at that point?) Today we have some Road Runner video. The Plymouth Road Runner has to be one of the coolest cars of all time. Good looks, go fast performance, and a whimsy that only the Mopar crew could provide.

Today we have a 20+ minute feature on the Plymouth Road Runner from the American Muscle Car TV show. Sadly the show is not putting out any more new episodes. However all the episodes are on Netflix and many are on Youtube. You just have to do a little hunting. I saved you some trouble and the full episode commercial free is just after the jump.

Watch the 2015 Dodge Challenger reveal live

We have talked about it a few times this year and finally the big day is here. The new Dodge Challenger reveal. Scheduled for Thursday April 17 at 10:30 here in central time we will have a stream of the event. You can find it right here just after the jump. We’ve got a pretty fair idea what the new Challenger will look like. I expect some rear end revisions and maybe some tweaks to the front. The interior will get a big overhaul as well. There will of course be some changes to the underpinning. I think Dodge and SRT are not wanting to mess too much with a good thing. Why would they? The current Challenger is already the best of the new muscle cars so we expect more of that to continue. Tune in Thursday to find out for sure when we will get to the see the Challenger and Charger both.
