Everyone has that one car that they dream about, lust over, and stop everything they are doing when they see one. That is the Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird for me. It’s just it. I dream of owning one, although I know that it’s highly unlikely with prime examples fetching well north of six figures and clones approaching six figures. Still it’s good to have dreams even as we get older and I will always hold out hope that someday one of the most unique cars in the history of the automobile will grace my driveway. I intentionally held on to these photos as I shot this winged warrior nearly a year ago at the Louisianna Colorfest car show.
My love affair with the Superbird runs deep. As a child I had a toy of one and it was my favorite hot wheel. Then on one fateful day while out for a Sunday drive with my parents I saw one. I imagine I looked pretty funny with my 8 year old face smashed against the rear window glass staring as the Tor Red Superbird cruised by the other direction. It was love at first sight, it was even better then my toy, which was Vitamin C Orange in case you were wondering.
Needless to say when I see a Superbird at a show it grabs my attention fast. So was the case with this one. Now it turned out to be a clone, and I know some people just hate that, but I’m ok with it. Not that my opinion matters but a clone you can drive and enjoy, the original thing is getting so rare and expensive I’m not sure you take it out for a drive. So clones are ok by me. So let’s hit the jump and take a look at another dozen or so photos of this stunning example of a cloned Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird.

Few colors look more menacing than black and if you make that flat black it gives a whole new aura to the car. So today we have a short look at what is a very menacing flat black Plymouth Suburban. Yes Plymouth made a Suburban for those of you questioning if I mistyped there. Starting in 1949 Plymouth began producing Suburbans and that would carry on for nearly 30 years. It seated six and the rear seats folded flat making it a real innovator. This one is a three door which makes it extra cool in my book, not to mention some really sweet pin striping and custom interior.
As you can see from the outside it’s pretty cool. Long, low and a wagon will get you a feature on IG every time. We love things like this and I suspect you do as well. I have a few more pictures of this beauty after the jump including some close ups of that beautiful pin strip work and the interior.

Every one looks back and thinks all those old classic cars were so big and heavy but the fact is cars like the Chevy Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and Ford Mustang were quite small back then compared to their bloated counterparts. Just imagine how fast those new ones could be if they weren’t so fat? However there were big cars in the muscle car and classic car eras and today I thought we’d take a look at some of them that I spotted while cruising around the Loafer’s Car Club Show in Hannibal, Missouri.
The 1934 Ford Phaeton certainly fits the bill. It is quite large. This one is far from original with it’s LS1 and 4L60E trans. It’s certainly big and cool though. With Willwoods on all four corners it is sure to stop well too. Those are 15in Coddington wheels which help to set off the whole thing.
The cars at the show did get bigger so hit the jump for more girth from the show.

Sunday Commentary: The Calm Before the Storm
Sunday Commentary week in review
by Jason
Summer in the Midwest means cars shows and for me it means lots of time on the road. This weekend however I had a whole weekend off not because there were no shows but because I had other obligations. However next week starts a period of 8 shows in a four weeks and I intend to hit them all. So that means in the coming weeks we will have a flood of hot rods, muscle cars, and classics to show off. In the mean time we still have plenty going on these days.
In the last week IG took a decidedly more European flavor. Now I promise this is only temporary but with the Goodwood Festival of Speed going on, the debut of the Bentley Continental GT3, and all kinds of racing we had to stray just a bit from our hot rod roots to cover what we thought were some really cool events from the old world. Never fear though we intend to return celebrating everything American automotive as the next week approaches.
In the mean time we have plenty to review and talk about here on Sunday so let’s get it.
