TLDR
~B550-A610 PI
225/##/R15 or 235/##/R16 race slicks
FWD/RWD 2100-2300lbs
AWD 2500-2600lbs
Race roll cage mandatory.
No adjustable aero, no drivetrain swaps, but engine and aspiration swapping is allowed, so are street aero packages.
So far, initial testing has been as such:
Wheel/tire sizing is going to be important, so pay attention.
225/xx/r15 or 235/xx/r16 are max allowed. The 16s only apply if you can't fit the 225/15 size. Some cars can only do one size, some can do both. If both, default to 225/15s for the time being. This means 225 width, on a 15" rim.
Mandatory tire compound will be race slicks.
Past that, we're trying to get a power to weight ratio of 8.8lbs/hp. That number isn't set in stone, but the closer you can get to that, the better. A 2100lb car comes in at 238hp. Weight range for the time being is 2100lbs-2300lbs for FWD and RWD. I'm still working on AWD weight ranges, but so far looks like 2500-2600 is where I'm at. PI has fluctuated from B550-A610, so try not to fall on either side of that number, closer to 600 the better. It may wind up getting locked in to B600 at the end of this.
No drivetrain swaps allowed, but the verdict is still out on engine and aspiration swapping. For now they're legal, at least for testing purposes. I've also been running adjustable aero but for the sake of this testing, we're gonna say no adjustable aero, but street parts are allowed.
There's potentially going to be a car list for this, so don't get too attached to anything because I want the grid to look similar to the real world inspiration for this.

They end up being really fun cars!
I think the wheel tire size restrictions are a little confusing. I'd propose a 235/16 max size and be done with it. A number of cars that seem like they should be represented in the series run a staggered setup and I don't think they really have an advantage by doing so. Also, I suspect a couple of the AWD cars would benefit from being able to run a narrower tire. Maybe spec a minimum width of 205 as well?
I think it was mentioned, but probably a no race transmission restriction is a good idea.
I don't think you need to worry about a weight restriction for AWD per say. I think maybe set a weight maximum to prevent missiles and be done with it. I've got a Lancia that feels pretty good but it's roughly .5 slower at VIR South than just about all my RWD cars. Currently its at 24xx lbs and I don't think adding weight and or HP is going to make it any faster. I think it will take a lot of tuning to get an AWD car good enough to make up for the nerfing that they've got in FM6.
All the cars I've built are sitting just about at 210x lbs. They've all got something like 250-280ish hp so that's a little better ratio than the target (8.4-7.5). Not sure how big a deal that is.
I've been adding turbos to a lot of the builds. It lets you run max race weight and then build back up to minimum weight. I suspect they'll be a little faster too since they typically have 10-20% more torque than a car built with a lot of cams.
I've built, and then rebuilt the golf, scirocco, and civic to 21xxlbs and I'm still struggling to get to consistent 1:16's
I'm gonna run some RWD this weekend.
I've built a couple of AWD too, but they don't seem competitive.
I agree that a 235/16 tire size limit would make things easier to tune around/under.
- Braking late then late apexing the first corner (with good drive on the straight you should be at about 130+ into the braking zone).
- Stay to the far right (almost off the road) hammer the brakes at the big dip then turning in right before the crest at the chicane (two wheels on both rumble strips)
- late apex the opening right at the top of the rise
- turn in early and carry speed on the left sweeper (should be between 90-95mph through the corner)
- brake early and make the last two corners a big double apex corner while almost running wide and hitting all the curbing so you can be on the gas early for the front straight.
I think I'm going to do a dramatic re-tune on the gti and see if I can get it to be more better everywhere. So far the only competitive AWD car I've got is the Lancia Delta Integrale Everything else is just too sluggish. And by competitive I only mean that it can lap VIR south in the very low 14s, IDK how great it would be over the course of a series.
The re-tune really makes the car feel better and more consistent but I just don't think I've got FWD figured out.
Let's try just a 235/16 setup for a while here. What are you proposing with cars that don't fit that, though? There should be a minimum imo and a lot of these won't hit 235 widths..?
Pinched nerve is no shit for sure when it comes to pain and bringing you down.
But really, hope you get better soon. This thing has kind of stalled some, between Horizon Zero Dawn and The Stick of Truth. I'm in single player heaven currently.
215 might work but you's probably want to look at a few cars and make sure they can run that size. I think the RX3only goes to 205 on the front and I'm sure it's probably a relatively common car in your target series (since just about every time I see anything about RX3s it a car from Australia).
It's likely that there might be a few other cars which fall into that category.
Regardless I think you'll have plenty of cars for people to choose from either way.
