The Man in the High Castle

I finished it. I'd love to say I love it but I don't. I like the alternate history, and it's interesting to explore what if. The sci fi aspect pisses me off though. It reminded me of Lost. Lost was great when it was a plain crash but then all the sudden there's time travel, god and the devil, etc. It sucked. The first few times you see the film it was interesting. Maybe it's propaganda for the resistance? The last time you see the film it's like "oh great here's some stupid alternate reality time travel bullshit that will never get resolved.

I've heard rumors of a season two. It would be interesting if it were just alternate history but there will be more teases of the alternate universe where America wins the war, or Frank is killed by the Nazis after they drop the bomb on San Fran. Fuck I hate it so much.

An alternate history concept where the Nazis and Japan win the war and now America is living under their rule is such a good concept only to be ruined by time travel.

That's the Dreamer we all know and love. :))

I will say that the series is dramatically different from the book. About the only thing that is the same are the names of the characters.

Honestly, all of Philip K Dick's writing is difficult to adapt to the screen and, while there are some really good examples (Blade Runner, Minority Report), none of them are really anything like the books their based on.

To be fair the whole thing is less about the Nazi or Axis occupation and more about the characters dealing with a pervasive feeling that something is wrong or out of place. Pretty much all of his stories deal with trying to figure out what is real and what is a social or personal construct that is outside of the main characters control.

For what it's worth Man in the High Castle won a Hugo award in 1963, I think it was his only work to win the Hugo.
