Four Track Attack!!!!

Well, I want to really thank Dreamer for his last series! I had such a great time, I hate that I pulled my back out all to hell two weeks ago.... I've not had the xbox on for 2 weeks; but now I'm almost back to normal.....anyway....

I'd like to start this series around March 22nd so that'll give everyone some time to tinker with cars/builds... including myself.

I've actually sat around and asked myself how to make the field closer, but at the same time still diverse so everyone isn't in the same car or building missiles primarily. Here is what I came up with.... I present the Four Track Attack:

Same rules as Dreamer only with my added twists. 3 Sec roll off, sim damage, pits are open, no assists, etc... BUT as per my last series' races, we always kept the car class in the same class. I believe if we keep the car in the same class it will take away the ability to upgrade to a missile. Also, we are adding a 1/2 mile drag race in with the other three tracks to shake it up more. So the car starts in class we are running for the week, all upgrades other than drivetrain or engine swaps are legal. All four times for each will be added together to declare the winner for the week as well as an overall winner for the entire series. Obviously the lowest score wins overall for each. :awesome:

Tracks:
______________________________
Test Track Drag Strip (1/2 Mile) - less than 10 min overall time
Catalunya School (all corners, no pits) - 15 min time limit
Laguna Seca (balanced track) - 15 min time limit
Seabring Full (lots of straights, lots of turns) - 20 min time limit

Cars:
______________________________
D Class FWD (24 cars plus DLC)
C Class AWD (29 cars plus DLC)
B Class RWD (48 cars plus DLC)

Schedule:
______________________________
Week 1 - D class
Week 2 - C class
Week 3 - B class

Build:
--------------------------
Cars start in the class and remain in same class each week
All options open except drivetrain or engine swaps
The build must stay the same with each track/week, only tuning can change

    I see potential issues.
Not saying I'm not interested or that it's not a good idea but,..... we have been discussing this subject in your absence.

    Related- Missile tuning
Drag strip and Sebring are begging for missile builds.
Sebring in particular being the longest course and therefore the largest potential Time spread, practically demands a missile build.
Cat School is short. The time spread will be small, therefore the time loss will be small. Also more proportional time to run equals lower times, less risk, and less time spread.
Keeping the tunes within class helps a little but if the cars can vary as much as 2000-4000lbs then the hp will differ at least as much as 200hp, possibly even 300hp.
Even negating out right top speed and averaged power-to-weight, there will be sizeable differences in grip and acceleration.

    Scoring-
    Accumulated time scoring won't work.
It needs to be weighted/ biased by length to negate a missiles advantages.

    Solution?-
Divide time in seconds by track length in miles,.... maybe?

    Unrelated-
Open2nd is working on a sort of B-class based IPRA spec.
Several of us have already begun testing, but nothing has been posted quite yet.
Not that this is a conflict, just saying we aren't without tuning projects.

Again- not putting the plan down, just sayin we may want to tweak some details, dates, ideas.

I've got no problem deferring to another series. I've been neglecting Forza for the past few days and need at least another solid week of R&D for my potential series. Don't let me hold you up.
  • Im down for whateves.... :)

Feel free to post up some ideas to test, etc and we will iron out better details before continuing... even if we have to change the entire thingy.
  • That's a kind of interesting math problem. I guess if you wanted to create parity across different tracks you'd have to come up with some sort of weighting system.

To be honest I don't think an open time attack format easily lends itself to parity. I also think that's part of the fun. You really do have to pick your poison so to speak.

I don't know about Pops FWD car from the last series but I don't think anyone really had a missile build in A and S class. I know some were calling the Viper and Murcielago missiles but the fact that both those cars set the fastest time on VIR Patriot as well as Monza seems to counter that idea. They're just strong cars in class. Honestly, the Ford GT was quicker that both of them in both classes.

I think mandating a tire compound and aero (or not, pick one) would probably bring the cars closer together.

What about a Power to Weight ratio cap? Would that hurt build creativity too much?
