Sunday Commentary: March is here!

March commeth which means spring must be right around the corner. Of course you can’t tell from the mountains of snow outside the IG Midwest office. Springs is getting close though as I’ve been getting all sorts of emails, texts, and other correspondence about car shows in the area that are coming up. We are now less then a month away from the first cruise in with the White Hall Drag O Way guys. Here’s hoping the weather holds out so there is a big crowd.

With all of that said let’s take a look at the week that was, and the week that might be going forward.

The final C6 Corvette rolls off the line at Bowling Green

With every new beginning is an end, or something like that. With the new Chevy Corvette C7 production beginning this spring obviously they have to stop making the C6 at some point. That point was this week.
C6

Chevy produced just over 215,000 C6 Corvettes in the nine year production run.

Hit the jump for the press release from GM.

Film Friday: 2 > 4 Ice Speedway Racing

Who says you can’t ride a motorcycle on ice?  I personally haven’t had much success, but then again I’ve never ridden a motorcycle with 1″ long metal spikes sticking out of it’s tires.

The McLaren P1 stats, performance, horsepower, and price

Well all is now known about the McLaren P1. We have talked an awful lot about the P1 lately and with good reason. It’s going to be a history car just like the F1 was. It will not be the fastest car in the world, but it will be one of the most impressive. It will adorn the walls of young car guys every where, and maybe even here in the IG office. It is a pretty thing, but more importantly let’s check out the performance.

P1 motion

Key stats are:
0-60 mph in under 3 seconds
0-124 mph (200km/hr) under 7 seconds
0-186 mph (300km/hr) in 17 seconds
top speed is limited to 218 mph

So if you were shopping for a hyper car in that 1.1 million dollar range the P1 might be for you.

Tons of pictures and full press release from McLaren after the jump.

The new Volkswagen GTI

The new Volkswagen GTI is a big deal for several reasons. First being the GTI is the original hot hatch and hot hatches are cool. They do every thing well instead of just focusing on one area. Secondly it sets the bar for all hot hatches to follow. The GTI will probably not be the fastest, or roomiest, but it will probably be one of the best.

2014 GTI
The quick and dirty of the GTI is it will come in two horsepower levels the 220hp base model and 230hp sport pack. Both trims come with a turbocharged direct injection (TSI) engine and 258 lb-ft of torque. Standard is a six speed manual transmission and VWs six speed dual clutch box will be an option.

These coupled with the TSI engine, and standards stop start feature will get 36mpg. The new GTI is looking impressive for sure. Pricing info has not yet been released and as the car has not officially been announced for the US yet we can not even speculate. I would expect it to come in right around the current GTI though keeping it affordable.

Full Press Release after the jump.
