The new Volkswagen GTI is a big deal for several reasons. First being the GTI is the original hot hatch and hot hatches are cool. They do every thing well instead of just focusing on one area. Secondly it sets the bar for all hot hatches to follow. The GTI will probably not be the fastest, or roomiest, but it will probably be one of the best.

The quick and dirty of the GTI is it will come in two horsepower levels the 220hp base model and 230hp sport pack. Both trims come with a turbocharged direct injection (TSI) engine and 258 lb-ft of torque. Standard is a six speed manual transmission and VWs six speed dual clutch box will be an option.
These coupled with the TSI engine, and standards stop start feature will get 36mpg. The new GTI is looking impressive for sure. Pricing info has not yet been released and as the car has not officially been announced for the US yet we can not even speculate. I would expect it to come in right around the current GTI though keeping it affordable.
Full Press Release after the jump.

Sunday Commentary: March is here!
Sunday Commentary week in review

With all of that said let’s take a look at the week that was, and the week that might be going forward.
