ALMS Grand Am merger class changes abound

We absolutely love ALMS racing here on IG and when it was announced that there was a merger with Grand Am we were a bit apprehensive. Our fear was the powers that be at Grand Am would take the awesomeness of ALMS, which brings true European style enduro racing to states, and make it go the way of Indy Car. Which is to say basically kill it. However we are keeping an open mind, and the new series certainly will have our full attention because we will watch anything with a motor race, especially if it’s on a road course.

ALMS @ Laguna Seca

So today we have a full press release about the upcoming changes as the series merge. Here are some highlights.

-The biggest and saddest news is that ALMS P1 will be eliminated. This means we won’t see the likes of the Audi R18 here stateside any more. That sucks!
-ALMS Proto Challenge will still exist
-Daytona Prototypes and ALMS P2 will merge into one class

You can hit the jump for the full press release.

Film Friday: The Isle of Man TT

Admittedly I’m not a huge motorcycle guy, but the Isle of Man TT is all kinds of awesome. I’ve just always focused my attention on cars so there has not been time for motorcycles. A few staffers here at IG are certainly motorcycle nuts and we’ve kicked around the idea of doing more motorcycle stuff going forward. We’ll see how that fleshes out as the new year wears on. For now though our film Friday flick of the week is the Isle of Man TT. It’s an hour long documentary about the race, what brings the racers back, and what brings them there in the first place. It’s pretty cool and I think you guys will really enjoy it.

Mercedes Benz C63 AMG to drop 6.2L V8 in favor of 4.0L V8

The Mercedes Benz C63AMG is one of the modern greats. I’ve often said the only automaker that makes muscle cars out side of the US is Mercedes and the C63 is a prime example of that. It uses a legendary 6.2L V8 that not only packs one hell of a punch but sounds other worldly. It might be the best sounding engine on the market today.

C63 AMG

The current 6.2L produces 451hp and 443lb-ft of torque which rockets the C63 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. That’s super car speed in a sports sedan that weighs north of two tons. That’s how awesome the 6.2L is.
