The new 6.2L LT1 V8 powering the C7 Corvette

LT1 V8

Chevy's outgoing LS3 engine

We might as well call this Corvette week. Today Chevy announced the details of what will power the new 2014 C7 Corvette. The base model C7 will get a small block 6.2L engine called the LT1. Not to be confused with the old LT1 that powered Camaros and Vettes of old.

Chevy says the engine produces 450hp and 450 torque with direct injection and continuously variable timing. A dry sump oiling system will be optional, but the engine comes standard with a wet system. Premium fuel is recommended but not required.

They also say the new power plant is quite small and light compared to the competition. In fact the new LT1 is 40lbs lighter then BMWs V8. That pretty much keeps in tradition with the LSx series of engines. The engine will also be produced at the Tonawanda plant which is really no surprise since GM has spend a huge amount of money modernizing the plant in the last few years.

Admittedly the video doesn’t give us much details but it does get us pumped up for the Detroit Auto Show debut.

You might remember a few weeks ago we took a look at what Chrysler had to offer. This week it is Chevrolet’s turn and they are packing some performance heat.
