If you want to see some of the best classic cars in the world you would need to be in Montery California this week for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. If you wanted to see modified versions of those classics setting land speed records you needed to be at Bonneville last week for Speed Week 2012. While serious work is being done during Speed Week, it isn’t all about setting records, as proven by James Gaulrapp’s 1949 DeSoto.

One off tribute to Carroll Shelby

Ford Motor Company, Shelby American, Ford Racing and others are paying tribute to the late Carroll Shelby with a one off 2013 GT500 Cobra. Appropriately the car was unveiled at Monterrey where this years feature cars were Shelby.
The car comes with a Ford Racing 4.0L whipple supercharged engine that makes 850hp and put’s it down through 345 tires. The car comes with Willwood brakes, a new hood, widebody kit, and Gaurdsmen blue with Wembledon white racing stripes. Or as it’s more known Shelby White and Blue.
The car will tour the nation at various events this year and then be auctioned off for charity.

Rhys Millen’s run up Pikes Peak
Giant freaking asterisk here, this run did set a record. Not that it matters since this is the first year the course was all tarmac. Of course it’s going to be faster up the mountain. duh. So the time here means nothing. I’m not even going to consider it a record. The old time on the gravel is still the record, this can start a new period of record keeping. It would be like if I invented a new event for the Olympics the couch sitting contest and won it the first year. Yes technically that’s a world record, but it means nothing.
With all that said, cars flying up Pike’s Peak are still pretty cool and on board footage is even cooler so here’s Rhys Millen taken his Hyundai Genesis Coupe up the mountain.

Red Bull F1 goes flying through the Lincoln Tunnel
I once blasted leisurely drove at well under the speed limit through the Lincoln tunnel in a Dinan 335i. It sounded awesome. I think every town should have a tunnel. Apparently F1 team Red Bull understands that tunnels are awesome too. Of course F1 is coming back to America this year and they are trying to get a race in New Jersey next year so the promotion machine is running full throttle. I really don’t care why they are doing it because videos of David Coulthard screaming through a tunnel is reason enough for me to post about it.
Turn your speakers up and listen to the awesome!
