The small block Chevy, it’s roots

Since 1955 one engine has been synonymous with hot rodding, horsepower, and performance. The legendary small block Chevy. Today we begin a journey into the history of the small block Chevy and over several articles we hope to give everyone a better understand of just what this engine is, why it’s so popular, and what it’s capable of.

Like all great things, the small block Chevy was born from the need to compete with Ford. Chevy’s Corvette and Bel Air both suffered from lack luster engine choices in the early 1950s and as a result could not compete with the offerings from Ford. So in 1955 the small block Chevy had come from idea to production in just 15 weeks! You can’t get a modern car company to order lunch in that amount of time. The first small block Chevy’s were put in the 1955 Corvette and Bel Air in the form of the now legendary “might mouse” 265 cu in V8. The engine was hugely popular and quickly gained a reputation in stock car and other forms of racing for its might and reliability.

A little something leading up to Le Mans

The race is a still a ways off but it will be here before you know it. In the mean time the promoter (ACO) has put together a little something to wet our appetites. Who can resist vintage Le Mans footage?

The obligitory gas price segment on the news

Other then this post, I promise that we will never post about gas prices on www.infinite-garage.com. Gas prices are irrelevant, that may sound odd but the fact is it’s true. If you have to drive to work, school, or to the store you are going to do it no matter what the price of gas is. Sure they might effect the car you drive the next time you go car shopping but you are still going to drive. I feel like the news, which is a joke in America has to run a gas price segment every couple weeks to spark just a little outrage. This gets the ‘mericans all pissed at the middle east, and the people who hate cars screaming “we need more mass transit!” Both are kind of stupid. We get more oil from Canada then the middle east, of course the middle east has something to do with the price, but the fact is oil is a publicly traded commodity, which is what dictates the price.

So, we vow not to talk about gas prices here, we are car guys, and using some fuel is part of it. In fact we should make it a point that every time we see a hybrid to tromp on it and use a little more gas. Someone has to use it, and you wouldn’t want it to be a Prius would you?

The Honda NSX, a look back and a look forward

Honda JPPR has a pretty sweet video of the NSX up on the youtube. The new NSX has created quite a bit of buzz this year and rightfully so. It has some pretty big shoes to fill if it’s going to replace the old one which has reached legendary status.
