2013-2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 at the Nurburgring

The Nurburgring is a place I am sure you have all heard about. That mythical 14 mile track in the Eiffle Mountains of Germany is the place where all the big automakers go these days to test their latest and greatest. So the SVT Performance guys would surely be no exception bringing their latest taken on the GT500 to Germany for some testing.

The Cars of CES

CES is a big trade show to show off the latest in tech. Since cars have become very techie we are seeing cars at CES. This year probably the biggest news on the car front from CES was that the Corvette Stingray is going to get a nifty video and data recorder. Meaning if you take your Stingray to the track you can get video and telemetry from your run. All of this will be easly accessed through your mobile device, and SD card, or while you are parked at the track. The possibilities are pretty cool and I’d except a lot of companies to do this real soon. Of course they will all take credit for doing it first but in fact it was the guys at Chevy and the Corvette Stingray to do it first.

1939-Crosley

Other cars like this cool Crosley graced the floor of CES to showcase ways new tech can help old cars. Of course some cars are just there to show off like the new Mustang. So hit the jump for some photos from the show.

Watch a Dodge Viper get crushed

Some videos kind of tick me off and this is one of them. Some guy gets caught racing his Viper on the street and it gets impounded, then crushed. Now he shouldn’t have been racing on the street, there is no denying that. Stupid move. What is even more stupid is that our judicial system (at least in some states) thinks that car deserves to die. IT DOES NOT.

viper-being-crushed

I’m not that upset about the car. Let’s be honest with ourselves. More Vipers have been destroyed by asshats with more money then driving skill. The cars are notoriously hard to drive, especially the early ones and many have been totaled. Inevitably right after the phrase “watch this!” was uttered.

My point is why crush the car? There’s a chance the local police department could use the money from a sale or auction of the car. Or, heaven forbid we would sell the car and give the money to charity or maybe a local food bank which nearly all of them desperately needs help right now. Nope, gotta crush it, that will show them! It’s this kind of stupidity that boils my blood. What’s a good used gen 3 Viper go for these days? 30-50k? That would feed a lot of hungry people, or buy a lot of text books for the local school, or well you get the picture. Stupidity wins though and now this car is worth a few hundred in scrap. Go America!

Hit the jump for the video.
