2013 Turkey Award: The Ford Mustang II

The Ford Mustang is a legend. If you are reading our site you know that. From the original 1964 to a brand new GT500 they have amassed a huge following. Back in the muscle car era the Mustang was so good Ford thought it needed a sequel. It didn’t. The Mustang II was everything the original Mustang isn’t. It’s ugly, slow, boring, and did I mention ugly? Ok so it was the mid 1970s and most cars fit those descriptions so why is the Ford Mustang II our Turkey Award winner for 2013?

Well the Mustang two was a child of the gas crisis of the 1970s. All cars suffered. Gone where big horsepower, fun, and the wild paint jobs and graphics of the muscle car era. In was sensibility, small cars, and fuel economy. Well 1970s fuel economy which is about the same as a top fuel funny car. The Mustang II was spectacularly bad from a car stand point, but it was actually a hit for Ford.

Classic cars at the LA Autoshow

By now you have surely seen the news from the LA Autoshow. It was all pretty boring really, as it usually is. LA while gaining in stature just doen not quite stand up to the likes of Detroit and Chicago with the new car releases. However new cars are not the only thing to be found at the LA Autoshow there was also a nice mix of classic muscle and other greats. Since that is kind of our thing here at IG I thought maybe you’d want to check it out.

It is rare the feature car of an article is a Japenese import, but this is no ordinary import. It’s a Toyota 2000 GT. I think it might be the most beautiful car to ever come out of Japan. It is also pretty rare.

SRT Viper GTS: Anodized Carbon Edition

The Dodge Viper is one of my all time favorite cars. It’s a bit crazy, a whole lot America, and it has a style that harkens back to the good ole days while still looking very modern. The new Viper just may be the best one yet with looks that remind me more of the late 90s version than the previous generation. Still alive and kicking are a monster engine and world class performance. So it is no surprise that the group at SRT has a special edition ripe and ready for the LA Autoshow.

Fantastic looking thing isn’t it? They call this one the Anodized Carbon edition and as you can imagine you get a great shiny paint and accents with some cool carbon fiber bits as well. That finish they are calling a metallic matte which I thought was always a bit of a contradiction but I can see it. There will only be 50 of these produced and if you want to know more and see many more photos just hit the jump.

Sunday Commentary: Thanksgiving travels

With turkey day just a few short days away I hope everyone is working an abbreviated work week and getting ready to load up on football and food this Thursday. We will pick our second annual turkey award on Thanksgiving this year so be sure to take a few minutes to tune in to that. In case you missed last years turkey award you can always read the 2012 Turkey Award article and hopefully get a good laugh. Remember it’s all in fun so no hate mail like I got last year. Who knew people were attached to the worst car ever made so much?

ram-air-IV

On to better things like that awesome supercharged GTO above. Thanksgiving means the weather has gotten cold, real cold here in the Midwest with temps digging into the single digits last night. It’s pretty safe to say car season is over here in the Midwest but that does not stop us from fueling your high octane passion all through the winter months.

In case you missed any thing hit the jump and check out the week in review!
