The coolest police car in the world

Every area of the country has some of those urban legend type police cars. Around the IG company office there are always rumors of a hopped up Cobra patrolling around handing out speeding tickets. In other parts of the countries there are Camaros, Corvettes, and even the odd Ford GT. In Seattle they do things a bit differently. They are kind of old school, like Plymouth Satellite old school.

In Seattle officer Jim Ritter daily drives a 1970 Plymouth Sattelite police car. While it certainly looks cool he also says it gets used for police duty as well. That’s pretty cool. Thank to the AP we have some cool video of the car as well as some pre restoration pics. So you can hit the jump and check out the short video.

Gasoline producing Bacteria have been created

At some point we are going to run out of oil and thus gasoline. It’s just fact. Now whether that is in our life time or not is a whole different story that I don’t care to get into as it boarders more on politics then factual ideas. What we do know is that our current methods of getting fuel are not so earth friendly. That is a bad thing as I’m generally not a fan of wrecking the place you live and for at least the foreseeable future most of us still have to live here on earth. So we need to find better ways to take care of our planet and scientists in the UK may have just found such a way.

Ok no the hot rod above has nothing to do with it but some day it may be running on gasoline produced by bacteria. Now this is something that has been done before but this time it is being done in a form identical to commercial grade gasoline meaning this stuff can be run in our cars. That is pretty awesome. Of course there is a catch, there always is….

Sunday Commentary:

Another Sunday is here so it’s time to look back at the week that was and forward to what will be. It’s a rare spring Sunday here at the IG home office with no car shows, cruises, or other events that require my attendance it seems I have some time to attend to the IG company car which is in need of a detailing after a long winter of neglect. That could result in an article or two who knows. We learned the pricing of the new Vette this week, more on that in a bit, and we take a look at a few other happens around the car world.

2014 Corvette Stingray starts at $51,995

We finally know that the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray starts at $51,995. Let’s just call it $52,000. Let me first say that is a lot of car for that price. NOTHING will touch the performance you get for for $52,000. At the same time I’m disappointed. This is going to upset some but $52k is not affordable. You see the Vette was always affordable. It was an unsaid promise. If you had a decent job, worked hard, and didn’t spend like a drunken sailor you could have a Corvette. I’m just not sure that’s the case any more. Before I get into why here’s a list of standard features.

C7 Corvette

-Seating with lightweight magnesium frames for exceptional support, and eight-way power adjustment
-Five-position Drive Mode Selector that tailors up to 12 vehicle attributes
-New seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching
-6.2L LT1 V-8 engine with direct injection, Active Fuel Management, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system
-Carbon fiber hood on all models, and a carbon fiber removable roof panel on coupes
-Aluminum frame that is 99 pounds lighter (45 kg) and 57-percent stiffer than the previous model’s structure
-Advanced, high-intensity discharge (HID) and light-emitting diode (LED) lighting
-Dual, eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens, with next-generation Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system and rear vision camera
-Bose nine-speaker audio system with SiriusXM Satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and SD card and auxiliary input jack
-Keyless access with push-button start
-Power tilt/telescope steering wheel
-An all-new, fully electronic top on the convertible that can be lowered remotely using the key fob

That is a nice bit of kit. It really is and it coupled with the blistering performance justify the price in a day and age where the Toyota Camary costs 30k. Here’s where things get well sucky.
