Tech Tuesday: LSX 376 Crate Motor Ready For Boost

Big horsepower means big, beefy technology, and no one is better at providing a base for big horsepower than GM. Their performance division has come up with a new Bowtie Block in the form of an LSX 376ci that is ready for boost. Lots of boost. GM claims that the all-forged rotating assembly is ready for 1000hp and about 15psi.

The engine is based on the LS7 but with some extra metal left in key parts such as the cylinder bores and deck. This means the engine is ready to be bored out to 454ci. That will get the job done. The block has been accommodated for a six bolt head just in case you need to strap on a turbo or blower… you know,  if 1000hp just isn’t enough for you. All the other provisions are set up for stock LS series accessories in case you want to run those.

You can hit the jump for the full press release.

Morgan 3 Wheeler Gulf Edition with video

Morgan makes a bit of eccentric cars made from wood, composites, and sometimes they have three wheels. the Morgan 3 Wheel is certainly fits the eccentric criteria and now they are fresh out with a new Gulf Edition.

The Gulf edition comes with of course a Gulf racing inspired livary, black engine, black exhaust, leather, and all sorts of other custom touches. Of course it isn’t available here but it’s still kind of cool to look at. You can hit the jump for the full press release and a video.

One year of Infinite Garage

It was one year ago today I made the first post of Infinite Garage and one question I get asked a lot is how did this come about so I will tell you shortly but first I want to thank all of you for your support over this last year. 50,000 visits, 200,000 page views, and lots of new friends later and this place is really taking off. Sometimes I look at the server stats and can not believe that this many people are interested in what I and the team have to say about cars. I think it is a true testament to the awesomeness of the car community.

Steve Saleen is back and in a big way. At the LA Auto Show Saleen showed a rendering and shared a few details of the new Saleen S 351. Of course 351 stands for displacement and we also know this engine is supercharged producing a gargantuan 700hp and 653lb-ft of torque. You will get 15 inch brakes to whoa all those ponies, staggered 20 inch rims, and some aero bits. No word on pricing just yet but I’m sure it won’t be cheap. You can hit the jump for the full press release from Saleen.

Let me also just say, welcome back Mr. Saleen, we missed you.

Chevy SS “Not the return of the G8”

The debut of the Nascar Chevy SS this week came with excitement and sadness. Excitement in that finally we will see a production Chevy V8 RWD sedan again. Sadness in that GM seems to think that it should be a halo car that few can afford and even fewer will enjoy. It’s sad really. The G8 was amazing, one of the best cars made in recent years, certainly in the EFI era. So to capture that magic and bring it to the masses Chevy has decided to not capture that magic and bring it to the masses. What? After the jump is the full press release where the President of GM North America Mark Reuss said “the only reason we brought it over was to go racing” and “this is not the return of the G8.” Reuss says the SS will be upmarket from the G8 and not for the masses. He also says it will be a four door Corvette. I thought GM already had an upmarket 4 door Corvette? What was it called? The CTS-V? yeah that’s it, the CTS-V.

So here is my plea to GM, give the masses something besides boring, bland, crappy cars. The Impala, Malibu, and everything else under 30k suck. Sorry, they are fine for point a to point b transportation, but they have no soul, they aren’t fun to drive, and no one really wants one, it’s just what someone who needs a family car gets in that price range because they can’t afford a CTS-V. Give us a damn G8 already. 30k RWD, big V8. It would be freaking awesome. This news kind of ticks me off really. I was thinking about a C7 Vette, screw it I’m buying a Mustang.
