Infiniti to Drop V8s from their lineup

As we reported last week there is a fear the V8 engine will go by the way side with the new CAFE regulations. While I still stand by my statement that it is not true it seems Infiniti is ready to dump it’s V8s. According to Infiniti it will no longer produce V8s and instead it’s V8 cars the FX50, QX56, and M56 will use small and probably forced induction engines. This really is no surprise as Infiniti was not exactly pushing the V8 engine and hardly relied on it to power a significant portion of it’s line up. So this is really insignificant news. However if you were wanting an Infiniti with a V8 you better get it now.

Project 09 Subaru WRX STI, baselines and tune

Our friends at Kronos Performance and Backyard Turbo get the dubious honor of being our first real project car here on InfiniteGarage.com. I’ve known Adam (CEO of Kronos Performance) for a very long time now and we seem to always be bouncing ideas off each other. Adam got his start modifying cars in the J-body world and by the mid 2000s had built up a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable Ecotec guys in the world. So it was a shock to every one when he switched to Mitsubishis and then Subarus. This 2009 STI is not Adam’s first trip to the Subaru rodeo so it will be interesting to see where he takes it.

For the dyno graph, videos and discussion hit the jump to see just how much was left on the table from the factory.

The all New 2014 Mazda 6

The Mazda 6 was quite the hit when it debuted back in 2002. This is no surprise with it’s aggressive looks, nicely appointed interior, and sporty attitude. It was a great car for young families or those who wanted the practicality of a family sedan but the feel of a sportier car. So a new Mazda 6 is kind of a big deal. As you can see from the picture it is quite the handsome devil so it certainly delivers in that segment.

The new Mazda 6 is of course full of SkyActiv goodies like a full host engine choices and a new higher tensil strength but lighter steel frame and skeleton. Also new for the European models is the I-ELOOP regenerative braking system. It is unclear if this will make it to the US model but as we hear we will let you know.

Other features of the new 2014 Mazda 6 will be:
High-Beam Control (HBC): Uses a sensor to detect oncoming vehicles and automatically adjusts between high and low beam to avoid blinding other drivers at night.
Hill Launch Assist (HLA): Helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards while the driver’s foot moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal when taking off on a hill.
Emergency Stop Signal (ESS): Causes the hazard lights to rapidly flicker on and off in the event of panic braking at speeds of 31 MPH or higher in order to warn vehicles behind.
Rear Vehicle Monitoring (RVM): Goes into effect at speeds of 19 MPH or higher and detects vehicles approaching from behind or driving in the blind spot area on either side, and alert the driver should s/he turn on the indicator signal to change lanes.
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS): Uses a camera to judge the position of lines on the road and alerts the driver of unintentional lane departures, thus minimizing the risk of collision due to driver inattention or fatigue.
Smart City Brake Support (SCBS): Uses a near-infrared beam sensor to help prevent collisions and, in cases where prevention is not possible, reduce the impact of frontal collisions at low speed (up to 19 MPH) by automatically applying the vehicle’s brakes.

The full prerelease can be seen after the jump.

The Evolution of the Audi R8

In many ways the Audi R8 is the new kid on the block in the supercar world, yet it feels like it has been in the game forever. Audi may not strike the soul, passion, and excitement in a person like Ferrari, Lamborghini or other super car brands but the R8 has won the hearts of many in it’s short time of existence. For 2013 Audi has done a bit of a refresh on the R8 for the states. It’s pretty minor stuff like new exterior colors, lots of carbon fiber options, and new interior trims. Audi is pretty proud of what they call the R8 Selection Editions. Which has to be a possible winner of the IG 2012 stupid car name award. However the stupid stops there because the R8 is an impressive piece of machinery.

Audi has put together a nice video on the “Evolution or the R8” for our viewing pleasure so hit the jump to see it and a full press release.
