Diesel Powered SLS AMG coming?

Rumors come from Europe that at the Paris Motor Show Mercedes will debut a diesel SLS AMG. This would be only the second AMG diesel in the companies history, the first being a C30 which was done over 10 years ago and only available in Europe. We do know Mercedes has been working on a new six cylinder diesel engine and it’s thought that the AMG version could have three turbos make 400hp and somewhere between 700-800 lb-ft of torque. That would be a torque monster. Diesel

Diesel powered sports cars aren’t as off base as they might sound. Remember a few years back when Audi debuted a diesel powered R8 at Detroit? Of course the fuel of the devil makes much more sense in Europe where prices are more favorable compared to gasoline then here in the states. The problem with that is the economy in Europe is even worse then here in the states so a couple hundred thousand dollar diesel powered SLS may not make financial sense for Mercedes. Only time will tell, stay tuned here for more news.

Top Gear USA back for 16 episodes in August

Love it or hate it Top Gear USA is coming back for a 16 episode season in August. That’s awesome! Put your biases towards the UK version aside and what you get is a show that’s taken off it’s traction control and really starting to race hard now. I’m a big fan of the US version of the show, yes the first season was pretty dreadful but the potential was always there and with the guys developing chemistry as the second season moved on the show because quite good. In fact if Top Gear UK didn’t exist Top Gear USA would be the best show on TV.

Here’s to a successful 3rd season and finally something good to tide us over while we wait for Top Gear UK to come back next year.

Nissan devoloping Juke based BRZ/FRS fighter

According to Motor Trend Nissan is hard at work developing a Subaru BRZ/Scion FRS fighter on the Juke platform. You’ll remember earlier in the week we hypothosized that the Z was going to get lighter and smaller and that may be Nissan’s answer to the it’s rivals. However it appears that now Nissan plans to slot in another car below the Z to fight with. Motor Trend also speculates this car would cost about $22,000 dollars which would actually be less then it’s rivals.

The car would use the Juke’s 1.6t engine with an AWD option meaning the standard car would likely be FWD. It’s also not clear that the car would even be sold here in America but Motor Trend’s source says Japan, China, and Europe would be likely markets. It will be interesting to see where Nissan goes with this and if we get it here State side.

Video: Why Shocks Matter by Ridetech

I happened across this pretty cool video by Ridetech on “why shocks matter.” It’s way more then an advertisement for Ridetech but more of an in depth look on why having good, and the right shocks make a difference when building/restoring/fixing your car.

Ford Focus ST to get 32mpg on the highway

Correct me if I’m wrong, but 32mpg isn’t exactly a fuel economy you brag about when you are the maker of a 2.0 liter turbo engine. Sure 32mpgs is great for a big honking V8 or even a V6. Those kind of numbers are being obtained regularly now by many automakers but it seems Ford can only muster 32mpgs out of it’s 2.0T ecoboost. The ST is a welcome addition to Ford’s line up with 252hp and it will likely handle very well but the fuel economy news is a tad disappointing with 32 on the highway and 23 in town. While those numbers are ok, the ecoboost engine was supposed to be Ford’s next big thing offering us power and fuel economy. 0-60 in the ST is around 6.5 seconds which is average too, especially for 252hp and 272lb-ft of torque. Here’s hoping the drive makes up for it, and if it’s anything like the euro hot Focus it will!
