The RX-7 is one of those cult cars, you either love it or hate really. The car world is full of RX-7 and rotary critics and some of that may be justified but at the end of the day it’s a pretty cool car. So how do you make a pretty cool car cooler? Well you could always add an LSx but of course that’s been done to death, so how about something a tad different? Say something that runs on jet fuel.

Viper GTS-R to debute at Mid Ohio ALMS race

We’ve been anxiously waiting for the GTS-R to drop and we finally have a date. At the August 4th ALMS race at Mid Ohio SRT will run the Viper GTS-R for the first time competitively. According to SRT they have only had three test sessions so far but they were all a great success. After Mid Ohio SRT is not sure how many races they will make, but they do plan to race the full ALMS series next year.
The cars will be piloted by Farnbacher, Goossens, Wittmer, and Hunter-Raey and compete in the GT class with the likes of the C6-R Vette, 458 Ferrari, and Aston Martins. It will be very interesting how the new Viper compares.

Next Nissan Z to get smaller and lighter.
According to Inside Line plans are under way for a lighter, more agile, more efficient, and smaller Nissan Z. This is good news because the current 370Z is a bit of a pig. Sure on paper it looks good but it’s really not a great driver but more of a grand tourer. Which is fine and dandy but with stiff competition for Hyundai, the Scion FRS, and Subaru BRZ, not to mention the likes of the new Ford Mustang the current Z platform is a bit lost
Never fear, it seems the guys over at Nissan get it. Shiro Nakamura who is head of design for the Z say the car is going to get smaller and lighter. It will also likely get a turbo four cylinder engine which will be more efficient. With turbo fours capable of great fuel economy and gobs of power it only makes sense.
We will of course keep you up to date on any news on this front but we certainly welcome a lighter, smaller, Z. Let the RWD sports car wars rage on!
