St. Louis Regional Airport Auto Show and Fly In this weekend.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out the Auto Show and Fly in at the St. Louis Regional Airport this weekend in Bathalto, Illinois. You can expect a little bit of everything from world class hot rods to all kinds of muscle and classics. There will also be a swap meet so if you are looking for that rare piece of trim or maybe need some sweet “new” wheels for your car you never know they might just be there waiting for you. The festivities start at 9am Saturday the 28th and go until 3pm.

The fine folks in charge of the show asked me to give them a little plug this week so I thought in lieu of just doing a quick little post I might take the time to post some of my favorites cars of the summer. So hit the jump for a mixed bag of classic cool.

WHDOW: wrapping things up

I could post another week or two’s worth of photos from the White Hall Drag O Way Reunion but the cold hard truth is I need to save some for winter when there are no car shows. Don’t worry though that doesn’t mean there won’t be tons of great original photos from shows coming. In fact the show schedule looks very busy for the next month so we will still be cranking out all kinds of great content. I’d like to take another chance to thank the guys at the WHDOW for putting on a great show, one you just wouldn’t expect in a small Midwestern town, or maybe it is something we should expect when a bunch of great guys get together with the power of small town business and ingenuity to bring on a great show for the community.

Chevy-hot-rod

This installment will focus on a handful of hot rods that caught my eye. There was a great hot rod turn out at the show. Lighting conditions were tough at times though so some of my photographers were pretty poor so if a stellar hot rod didn’t make the cut this time around it’s probably my fault and I’ll catch them down the road some where.

Sunday Commentary: Autumnal Equinox style, upcoming car shows

As I write this fall is falling across America as we have reached the Autumnal Equinox. I get a bit sad as fall approaches because it won’t be long before the winter weather settles in and all the cool cars go away until spring. However there is still plenty of great car action to come and in fact I just spent a great afternoon out at the Jacksonville Cruise Night car show in Jacksonville, Illinois. Beautiful weather brought out loads of cool cars and I was there with camera in tow. So you can bet this upcoming week will be filled with hot rods, muscle cars, and other assorted classic. Heck I even shot an import or two.

RS-SS-Convertible-Camaro

All that is for next week though, in the mean time it’s Sunday so let’s take a look back at the week that was filled with assorted photos of classic car goodness like that Awesome RS SS Camaro above. You real old school IG readers might recognize it as our first banner car. We’ve come a long way since then with our focus shifting from a hodge podge of new car car news, reviews, some show reports, and anything we could could our hands on to nearly 100% original content which is something not too many websites can say these days. We don’t want to just toot our own horn though because none of this would be possible with out all of you reading day in and day out and without all the great cars that we have the pleasure to photograph out at the shows, on the street, or who knows where.

The Viper’s Nest

The Dodge Viper was the stuff of dreams when I was coming of age. It’s classic looks and huge horsepower was enough to make any teenager want one. My love affair has waned a bit as I’ve gotten older but those early Viper’s are something special to me still. I’m willing to bet a lot of IG readers like Vipers too.
Vipers-Nest
So for film Friday today, thanks to the guys at egarage we have a sweet five minute film on The Viper’s Nest which is a collection of over 65 Vipers and 100 cars. For the video just hit the jump, click play and enjoy.

The meanest Anglia you will ever see.

The meanest Ford Anglia you will ever see. You don’t think about Anglias as drag racers typically. The quaint little cars have great classic lines and typically come equiped 933cc I4. This Anglia which is an E494A was originally produced from 1948 to 1953.
Anglia
The Anglia we are taking a look at today is far from stock featuring a 355 small block Chevy and a Wieland blower. A Ford 9in rear end houses a 4:10 gear which is sure to make the car jump off the line on those huge rear tires. Needless to say this Anglia will get down the road a little faster now then it would when it was new in 1948.
