MOTORSPORT - DAKAR 2014 PART 2

The biggest story of the day was the tragedy of Joan Barreda.  After leading the early stages of the 2014 Dakar Rally and battling with Marc Coma during the second week Honda’s Barreda had essentially locked up second place and he looked ready to pounce in the event that Coma ran into trouble.  Sadly for the young Honda team Barreda had trouble on the stage losing over three hours and dropping from 2nd to 7th.  It goes without saying that it was an emotional day for the young Spaniard.

Barreda wasn’t the only one to suffer on Stage 12 of the 2014 Dakar Rally.  After a struggling with mechanical issues and bad luck Robby Gordon was forced to withdraw after Stage 11.  I’m hoping Robbie as back next year as the Speed Energy Hummer (aka the Gordini) looked like a strong car when it was running properly.

MOTORSPORT - DAKAR 2014 PART 2After yesterday’s team orders to maintain position the 2014 Dakar Rally looked like it was going to be a boring MINI demonstration parade. Somehow even with team orders Nani Roma managed to lose enough time that he had fallen to 2nd overall by a mere 26 seconds.

MOTORSPORT - DAKAR 2014 PART 2Peterhansel the benefactor of Roma’s mysterious “misfortune” believes that the team orders will remain and it’s likely that Roma will return to the lead at the end of the final stage.
