Rumors come from Europe that at the Paris Motor Show Mercedes will debut a diesel SLS AMG. This would be only the second AMG diesel in the companies history, the first being a C30 which was done over 10 years ago and only available in Europe. We do know Mercedes has been working on a new six cylinder diesel engine and it’s thought that the AMG version could have three turbos make 400hp and somewhere between 700-800 lb-ft of torque. Diesel powered sports cars aren’t as off base as they might sound. Remember a few years back when Audi debuted a diesel powered R8 at Detroit? Of course the fuel of the devil makes much more sense in Europe where prices are more favorable compared to gasoline then here in the states. The problem with that is the economy in Europe is even worse then here in the states so a couple hundred thousand dollar diesel powered SLS may not make financial sense for Mercedes.
