A lot of us are born into being a car guy. Maybe it’s our Father or Grandfather whose love for cars gets instilled in us at a young age by watching them wrench on their own cars. Maybe they set us up behind the wheel on their lap and let us “drive” a little bit. Growing up a farm boy I got to “drive” pretty often with my Dad and Grandpa. Looking back those are special memories to me and I’m sure they had a lot to do with my love of cars because I just thought that was the coolest thing ever back then. Since not every one is blessed with being born into being a car guy I have always felt it necessary to guide others in the direction of carguydom.
One thing I’ve always been willing to do is give my little cousins rides in my car and when they turn 16 I will let them drive it. Usually much to their shock. In fact for a decade or so my car has been the defacto “learn how to drive stick” car in the family. Now I’m sure to some that seems like a scary thing, letting a 16 year old learn to drive stick on your pride and joy but I’ve always felt it important.
Well today I’d like to think a car girl was born. My cousin BreeAnn is 18 and about to head off to college. I suppose if you are an 18 year old guy or girl a C6 Vette is pretty awesome. I know to this 31 year old guy it is. She was admiring the car, sending pictures to her friends and joking with them about “check out my new car.” I asked her if she wanted to go for a ride and she jumped on the chance. So we went and fetched the key and she headed to the passenger door and I said “hey where you going? You’re driving.” Her jaw hit the ground. She was nervous as heck but had a smile from ear to ear. We took a half hour cruise her driving like an old lady the whole time but loving every second of it. When we got back she still couldn’t quit smiling. Maybe a car girl was born today.
So get out there IG fans and spread the love for cars.
