Film Friday: Alfa Romeo 4C

How do you build the car that will relaunch Alfa Romeo in the U.S.? Hit the jump to find out what goes into the latest sports car from Alfa Romeo, the 4C.

Few marques have as storied a history as Alfa Romeo.  Absent from the U.S. market for decades, Alfa is planning on a return to U.S. shores in 2014.  The Alfa Romeo 4C is the car that is going to relaunch Alfa as a premium brand in both the U.S. and the world.

With a carbon fiber tub and composite body work the Alfa Romeo 4C is projected to weigh well under 2000lbs and the base level 240hp turbocharged 4 cylinder engine should provide enough oomph for the car to go from 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds.

How is such a lightweight marvel constructed?  I’m glad you asked, this video should give you an idea.

Surprisingly it sounds pretty good for a small turbo four cylinder.

It does look like a pretty fun little coupe.  To my eye it looks somewhat like a Lotus Elise, which isn’t such a bad thing.

The one downside is that U.S. pricing is expected to come somewhere close to $90k, according to Car and Driver.

That might be a little steep for many especially when you consider what else is in that price range like the F-type Jaguar, Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R.  Looks are a subjective but each of those cars puts up better performance numbers than the 4C, generally by a pretty wide margin.

C7 CorvetteThen again you could also buy a 2014 Stingray, that according to recently released performance numbers should crush all the previously mentioned cars, and you’d still have enough left over to buy an Italian exotic.
