2014 Dakar Rally – Stage 9

Giniel de Villiers - ActionComa tightened his grasp on in the motorcycle class and Peterhansel smells blood in the cars on Stage 9 of the 2014 Dakar Rally.  Hit the jump for our recap as well as some great pictures from the dunes of Chile.

Marc Coma - ActionWith Marc Coma blitzing the bike class once again the motorcycle it is starting to look like the 4 time Dakar winner might have another Dakar win in his future.  Barreda Bort kept Coma within sight on the day’s stage but a 15 minute penalty has dropped him back to nearly an hour behind Marc Coma for the overall lead.

MOTORSPORT - DAKAR 2014 PART 2At minimum, if Coma wins Barreda and Honda can take comfort in being able to challenge the KTM juggernaut and it bodes well for the future in the motorcycle class.

MOTORSPORT - DAKAR 2014 PART 2In the cars a conservative Nani Roma lost over 11 minutes to his teammate Peterhansel and his overall lead has been trimmed to a measly 12 minutes.

MOTORSPORT - DAKAR 2014 PART 2Both men are Dakar veterans but it is hard to bet against the legend that is Peterhansel.  If anyone can claw back time and consistently finish stages it’s the Frenchman.

Carlos Sainz - ActionA man who’s 2014 Dakar Rally chances are probably finished is Carlos Sainz.  After strong finishes in the first week the Spaniard was looking forward to the wide open stages of Chile, stages which suit his SMG buggy.  Unfortunately, mechanical problems sidelined him in today’s stage and he lost nearly two hours.
