Sunday Commentary: Thanksgiving travels

With turkey day just a few short days away I hope everyone is working an abbreviated work week and getting ready to load up on football and food this Thursday. We will pick our second annual turkey award on Thanksgiving this year so be sure to take a few minutes to tune in to that. In case you missed last years turkey award you can always read the 2012 Turkey Award article and hopefully get a good laugh. Remember it’s all in fun so no hate mail like I got last year. Who knew people were attached to the worst car ever made so much?

On to better things like that awesome supercharged GTO above. Thanksgiving means the weather has gotten cold, real cold here in the Midwest with temps digging into the single digits last night. It’s pretty safe to say car season is over here in the Midwest but that does not stop us from fueling your high octane passion all through the winter months.

In case you missed any thing hit the jump and check out the week in review!

The Ford Mustang turns 50.
We are coming up on the 50th anniversary of the Mustang. One of the most iconic cars ever built and the only pony car to survive uninterrupted all these years. Of course the success of the Mustang is what helped to bring the Challenger and Camaro back from the dead and fuel the current horsepower wars.

911 Group B

Hot Rods
It had been a while since I did a post dedicated purely to hot rods so I whipped something up this week that had both the shiny and rusty kind. Something for everyone if you will.

Wallpaper Wednesday
Chevy fans have been feeling a left out with Wallpaper Wednesday lately so I tried to scratch their itch with a photo of a Chevy Badge. Simple and beautiful.

F1 at Austin
Reno continued his regular round up of F1 action. Last week it was close to home in Austin, Texas for the US GP. The Circuit of the Americas is an awesome track and usually makes for some good racing. Usually. However the parade that has been F1 lately rolled through town and made for some pretty pedestrian action. However there are some awesome photos from the event you won’t want to miss.

Callaway SS
The new Chevy SS is one hot ride. Ok it looks kind of bland but you can’t argue with an LS engine under the hood. Chevy says it’s a four door Corvette, that sounds good to us. Calloway has decided it needs a bit more spunk though so with a supercharger bolted on to the LS3 and some other tweaks they have created a four door rocket ship.

German fire power
No one does luxury like the fellas over at AMG. You start with a Mercedes add lunacy and the result is one hell of a car. With two Mercedes models on the way out the powers that be decided one last edition was in order.

Forza Motorsports 5
Our favorite racing simulation launched it’s fifth installment this week when Turn 10 released Forza Motorsports 5. The game has gotten very mixed reviews to say the least. To sum all of those up basically everyone says the game looks great, but is really thin on content. Turn 10 says they just did not have time to put as much content in this game as they did the last one and for now I’ll take their word for it. However what is clear is that the revenue model of gaming has changed from giving gamers complete games at launch to rushing out new titles and charging gamers for content that was removed from the game. Love it or hate it, that’s the way it is going to be from now on. I’m not going to rush out my review of Forza 5. I’m going to play the game for a few months then come back and tell everyone what I think. So if you were expected a day one review from the IG crew you’ll just have to wait.

That is going to wrap it up for this week. With the holiday coming up I just want to remind every one to please be safe. There will be a lot of people on the road and most of them will be in a hurry for no good reason except they are. Take your time, stay calm, put the cell phone away, and remember drinking and driving do not mix. We want everyone to come back here and read IG for a long time. So no one get yourself hurt or killed during the holidays.
