Virginia City Hillclimb – Ferraris and Fords

Ferrari Hillclimb

The 42nd edition of the Virginia City Hillclimb, put on by the Ferrari Club of America’s Pacific Region took place last weekend.  We braved the heat to bring you some pictures of cars, both vintage and modern, as they took on the twists and turns of Nevada State Highway 342.  Hit the jump for a gallery of pictures and very little commentary.

While we don’t cover a lot of supercars, or even modern cars for that matter, it is hard to ignore the sound of a Ferrari V12 or flat-plane V8 screaming up a twisty canyon road.

Because the Virginia City Hillclimb is a club event, spectator access is nearly unlimited.  No official press releases, no prestigious press pass, no catalog of events, just a group of guys and gals running their cars up a narrow mountain road for two days.  As a result we’re just going to throw some pictures up, comment on a few of our favorites and let you peruse the gallery at your leisure.

It probably wouldn’t be a Ferrari event without a 308 (aka the Magnum P.I. car).  I did manage to get a look at the driver and somehow he was allowed to drive without a mustache.

There were a lot of Sunbeam Tigers during the weekend.  They really are a hilarious car to watch.  Just imagine a car approximately the size of an MG with a small block Ford V8 stuffed under the hood and you’ll get the idea.  I’d hear a roaring V8 coming up the canyon and then one of these little cars would pop around the corner, a person can’t help but smile when that happens.

My personal award for most gorgeous new car, was this Aston Martin.  Simply stunning, both visually and aurally.

It’s not just exotics at the Virginia City Hillclimb.  This Falcon was back and sounding great.  There were a number of nice looking Mustangs at the event but I have to say there’s a soft spot in my heart for the Falcon.

This Mustang was simply flying up the hill as evident by the tire smoke.  He probably just needed to get some heat into the tires.

My favorite car of the event has to be this gorgeous little Mini.  I always forget how small they are.  As a person who has a ’65 VW Beetle as a daily driver believe me when I say that my Beetle looks like a Mack truck when parked next to an original Mini.
