Book Review: Art of the Muscle Car

Muscle cars are obviously a big deal here at IG. We are nuts about them. Each has it’s own story and each tells the story of an era in American history when unique designs, fierce competition, and some of the most colorful cars in history. For those that lived the muscle car era they think back to fond memories and race stories that like fish stories grow a little bit each time they are told. For those of us who were born just a bit to late for the muscle car era they are the things of legends. The stories our fathers told us growing up about Cuda’s, Camaro’s and other cars from their youth.

Art of the Muscle Car

The “Art of the Muscle Car” is written by David Newhardt and photography done by Peter Harholt. Both bring an excellent perspective to the book. Newhardt’s essays on each muscle car hit the high notes and touch on the story of each car, while Harholt’s photography is awesome. This book belongs on your coffee table where your visitors can enjoy the full color glossy pages with pictures of each car including some of the details that make muscle cars what they are. Conversations about what everyone used to own, what they raced, and so on are sure to ensue.

No muscle car goes left unexplored in the “Art of the Muscle car” from the GTO to the Mopars of the 70s they are all there.

I wish I could write a longer more in depth review of the book, but the book is quite straightforward. If you are a fan of great automotive photography as muscle car history this is a must own for you. The “Art of the Muscle car retails for around $30 and is available now in stores and online at places such as Amazon. Below is a preview of the book in the form of a Youtube video as well as a Jay Leno interview with the author. Check em out.
