Stage six of the Dakar proved to be eventful for some of the rally favorites and the Chilean dunes shook up the overall standings. Hit the jump for some pics and video of the stage and it’s contenders.
Cars:
Today’s mixed terrain provided advantageous for the Qatar RedBull sponsored buggy of Al-Attiyah. The defending Dakar champion clawed back eight minutes to put him just over a minute behind the overall leader Peterhansel. yesterday’s winner Nani Roma beached his Monster Energy X-Raid MINI in the dunes and lost over an hour.
Robby Gordon finished third today and continues to slowly climb back up the rankings after his bad luck in the early stages of the rally.

The French maintain their domination of the overall podium positions but local hero Francisco ‘Chaleco’ Lopez claimed victory in the first Chilean stage of this year’s Dakar. American Kurt Caselli, a Dakar rookie, came in 4th for the day and jumped to 12th in the overall standings! There is still a lot of racing left but Caselli is turning out to be a surprisingly strong contender.
