Film Friday: F1 vs 24hrs of LeMons

Marussia F1 vs 24hrs of LeMons

Formula 1 is the pinnacle to automotive engineering.  24hrs of LeMons is perhaps the pinnacle of automotive ingenuity.  Hit the jump for a pair of time lapse builds from both series.

I happened to see both of these videos within the same day and I thought it was an interesting contrast.  One is a clinical automotive laboratory where the ultimate performance envelope is redefined and the other is a dingy garage in Salt Lake City, UT.

It’s not surprising that a car build for the premiere automotive series takes place in a garage that looks more like an operating room.  Even if Marussia is one of the slowest teams on the grid, a testament to how difficult F1 is than any inherent flaw in the team, they still operate at a professional level that is without peer.

The other end of the spectrum is the 24hs of LeMons.  The LeMons series involves buying and building a race car for under $500 and then racing it for 24 hours.  The results are unprecedented in motorsport, this twin engined Corolla is a perfect example.  Built in a little over two months out of a pair of 80s Toyotas, an MR2 and a Corolla, the MRolla is a great example of the hilarious out of the box thinking that goes into every 24hrs of LeMons race.
