Well the second great weekend of the race season is here. The Daytona 500 is quite a spectacle even if you are not a big race fan. In fact I’m not the biggest of NASCAR fans but I got together with some people to see what it’s all about and I have to say I enjoyed the race despite a boring start.
Of course for me the big deal with today’s race was the return of cars that atleast resemble their show room counter parts. Now this certainly isn’t the win on Sunday sell on Monday cars of the 60s and 70s, but it is very nice to see something that looks like a car I could actually own, even if underneath they are pure race car. It’s a step in the right direction.
The NASCAR boys are not the only ones in action this weekend. While the first race, which is the Australian Grand Prix, is not until March 17 the Formula One guys are hard at testing for the season. Maybe the surprise, or not so much really is Lewis Hamilton, who switched from Mclaren to Mercedes this off season was quickest at the end of the weekend. Now it is no surprise Hamilton was fast, he always is, but I think the general feeling was Mercedes may lag behind a bit this year. That may not be the case. Of course this is just testing and it is a long season so Hamilton fans may not want to anoint him champ yet. Especially if the man pictured below has anything to say about it. Fernando Alonso and the Scuadaria Ferrari look fast as well.
This week on Tech Tuesday we took at look at Air Fuel Ratio gauges, why you should have one, and which kind to get. I can not reiterate enough about taking the right approach to modifying your car. Doing it right the first time around will save you a ton of time and money in the long run. I am working on a few things for this week and if all goes well I will look at a few other essentials in instrumentation.
I teased it last week and then things got very busy at the IG office so I did not get to finish the Dodge Polara article, until yesterday. I’m happy to announce that tomorrow the feature on Tom Ford’s Dodge Polara will finally run. It’s a neat story, and a very cool car.
On that I’ll wrap up today’s Sunday commentary. It was a tad late today as I took time off to celebrate my Dad’s 60th birthday. He is as big of a reason as to why I am a car guy as anything, and when I told him I wanted to drop everything and be an create this pokey motoring blog known as Infinite Garage he was my biggest supporter. So in honor of his birthday I’ll post his favorite car. A Plymouth Road Runner. I’m on a quest to get him one for his 65th birthday, but there are lot of chips to fall in place before then. Until know we have pretty pictures.
So until the next time Keep it shiny side up.
