A touch of spring is in the air here in the Midwest but it all comes crashing to a bone chilling reality again tomorrow when the high will be in the single digits. The week in the car world was much slower then the last few. However we managed to soldier on.

I really don’t have much to discuss this week. The weeks seems like a bit of a blur and I can’t believe it’s Sunday already. Probably the theme of the week was high prices. We learned the GT-R is going up in price, 1st productions of new cars sold for crazy prices at auction, and some old classics are still holding strong. I had an older friend whose retired and a car collector tell me that he didn’t know how guys my age were ever going to be able to have collections. Quite frankly I don’t either but we’ll figure that out someday. I’m pretty sure an original Superbird is long past anything I could ever pay for one, but there are lots of great less expensive cars out there to be had. It just takes some hunting and that’s the best part.
Let’s review all that was news on IG this week.
50 Years of Hemi.
The Hemi engine has been around quite a bit longer than 50 years but the gen II Hemi which is the one the all the muscle car enthusiast think about is 50 this year. The Mopar guys have a year of celebration planned and details can be found at the link above.

Dakar
Dakar wrapped up early in the week with more of a whimper then a bang. As often is the case in motorsports the championship doesn’t always come down to the wire. That was the case with Dakar, but still the photos were great.

1st Z28 sells for a fortune.
There is a lot of buzz about the 2014 Chevrolet Z28. As it turns out despite being a bit fat the Z28 can fly around a race track. The first one was up for sale at Barrett Jackson where was purchased for a lofty sum of $650,000.

Nissan GT-R gets expensive
The Nissan GT-R is fast and hugely popular with the kids. It was touted as a bargain super car, but at a price north of $100,000 is it still a bargain? I’m not so sure, but it’s a better value then a Ferrari.

Favorite Photos of 2013
With a little time to kill this week I decided to put together a post on some of my favorite photos of 2013. It’s basically a bunch of photos of muscle cars and hot rods.

Tim Allen and Jay Leno go for a cruise
It’s probably pretty good to be Tim Allen or Jay Leno. Cool cars, generally funny guys, and did I mention cool cars? Well the two got together to cruise in Tim Allen’s Copo Camaro. We’ve got video of that thanks to Jay Leno’s Garage.

The Lotus Esprit
The Lotus Esprit is all about being light, fast, and good looking. Well if you like the flying wedge shape which I happen to like. One of every iteration was gathered in one place and a video taken to show the evolution of the Esprit. It’s kind of neat.
