Chevrolet will oversea restoration of Corvettes lost in the sinkhole

By now you have surely heard about the Corvettes that got swallowed up by a giant sink hole at the National Corvette Museum. While it’s a terrible thing there are certainly worse tragedies in this world. Since most if not all insurance people are complete assholes and scam artists of course the the insurance company will not be covering the damages. This means of course that the museum is seeking donations. If you think your hard earned money should be spent fixing up the museums Corvettes instead of oh I don’t know feeding the poor then head on over to their site for a tax deductible donation.

After the jump we have some video of the actual sinking. Now I don’t want anyone to think I’m making light of the situation. I like Corvettes and I think it’s a shame what happened. I also think it’s silly to to beg for money to fix Corvettes when we have much more important troubles here in the country. However, it’s your money so who am I to judge? The good news is Chevrolet has stepped in to make sure the cars get restored to spec. That is important since there are some historically significant Vettes here.

Sunday Commentary: the start of good things

Well February is coming along nicely as we have now moved past the half way mark of the month. Winter will be behind us soon and car season on us. The forecast calls for temps up near 60 later this week here at IG HQ which will be a great turn around from the ten below zero we had just a few days ago. I’m excited to see the snow gone. Detail the IG Cobalt and get out and drive.

Mid February is a big transition time for us here at IG as we start to make plans on what car events we can attend and where. With the big car auto shows behind us we first turn our attention to racing season. I doubt I have to tell anyone reading this but the Daytona 500 is coming up right away and I will hopefully have loads of pics and info from the event. F1 is also going to kick off soon and winter testing is in full trot now. We may be able to have some NHRA coverage this year as well which would round out our race coverage nicely. I’m very excited for all the things we have to come here on IG. It’s going to be a big year! Not to mention we’ve got a BIG site update coming soon. I know I mentioned it a month or so ago but with the server troubles and some other things that came up we had to put it on the back burner. However work is in full swing and maybe this time next month we are all enjoying the new format. It’s going to be much more user friendly.

Nascar: The History of the 3 Car

First and foremost I’m proud to say we now have some inside access to the Nascar Media site. This means we can have some race coverage and other news and info that we just haven’t been able to provide in the past. I’d love to be able to tell you we will have race results and photos from every race, but at the end of the day we are still a two man operation on a really tight budget so that won’t happen. However I plan to cover the big races and any big news that happens. So if you are a Nascar and an Infinite Garage fan things are looking up.

I thought I’d get things started by doing a brief photo history of the number 3 car. Of course the 3 cars most famous driver is the one the only Dale Earnhardt. However long before the Intimidater was winning races the 3 car was out on the track making history. For example that photo above is of Paul Goldsmith in 1958 winning the Grand National. This was the last race on the beach.
More after the jump.

25 Years of the Mazda Miata

The Mazda Miata is probably not the first car that comes to mind when you visit Infinite Garage but it’s a car we really like. It’s driving reduced to the simplest form. It’s man and machine and it’s a whole lot of fun. It is hard to believe the Mazda Miata is now 25 years old. The car has under gone continual refinement, a little bit of growth, but ultimately remaining true to the roots the original car planted.
MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS MX-5 MIATA
Launched in 1989 the Miata cost just a shade over $13,000 and had a curb weight of just over 2,100lbs. Of course times have changed an now the Miata costs quite a bit more then that and weights a bit more too, but the soul is still there. After the jump are some photos and info on the Miata through the years and the 25th anniversary.

Is Road America Coming to Forza Motorsports 5? Photographic evidence

While rooting around on the leaderboards for Forza Motorports 5 it seems players have discovered something. Looks like Road America may be coming to the series.

I’m sure some will be disappointed that the Nurburgring currently is not on the list but Road America is great and if the leaderboard page is true it looks like new variations could be included. We’ll keep you in tune.
