Craigs list find: R code Hemi Cuda

Last week we told you about the cool Super Stock Savoy on ebay and that article turned out to be a pretty big hit so I thought maybe we’d try to find another cool classic this week up for sale. Turns out I didn’t have to look hard because my buddy Jake sent me this one last night. According to the seller it’s a real deal R code Hemi Cuda from 1970. Now he has no proof of that but who am I to argue? Obviously if you are doing the buying you’ll want to check out the tag to make sure that’s legit.

I suppose the first thing you will notice is that sweet vintage racing paint scheme. Well according to the listing this car was raced by Earnest Montgomery. No idea who that is and a simple google search turns up nothing at all. So… He may not exactly be a drag racing legend. Now whether or not this car has any real racing pedigree is beside the point. It’s damn cool. More photos and info after the jump.

Late 1950s Drag Racing Footage

Vintage drag racing is one of my favorite things to watch. I love seeing classics doing what they are supposed to do. Go fast! Too often the classic cars I see today are only show cars. I obviously like show cars but I really like race cars. When I come across some cool old video you can bet I’m going to pass it along.

Now there is no sound on this video. It is the late 50s after all and home movies didn’t have sound back then. However there are tons of great footage from series dragsters, to more traditional hot rods, and even a VW Beetle mixed in. It’s seriously cool video and great quality. Enough jabbering from me hit the jump and check it out.

Barrett Jackson Infographic: What sold well

Barrett Jackson is one of those things that captures our imagination. For years I’ve gathered with friends to watch the auction and we always play the “what if game.” Basically what if we had x amount of dollars which cars would go on the trailer home with us? It’s fun to play. Now the guys at hhclassic.com have come up with a pretty sweet info graphic that shows just what the hot selling marquees were at Barrett Jackson this year.
Super Bee
Of course the obvious choices like the rare really low production number cars are hot. Your Hemi Cudas, LS6 Chevelles, etc. However there are larger trends at work here and those are fun to explore. So hit the jump for a really cool graphic.

Saleen needs no introduction. The company that’s been making muscle cars, particularly Fords go fast for a long time now. Saleen has of course branched out in recent times doing all the big muscle cars. Now they are teaming up with Katzkin who many of you probably are aware of.

Monday Commentary? communication breakdown edition

The great thing about technology is it allows us to communicate with people across the world that we would never other wise meet. The bad thing about that is it can be finicky. As was the case this weekend when my laptop decided it didn’t need to connect to the internet any more. This made it tricky to work on IG as I was out of town on business. Back home now and using what I refer to as the worlds most expensive solitaire playing machine I have borrowed a destop for the afternoon to get work done.

The Sunday Commentary has morphed into the Monday Commentary and that means we do the week in review. This week was cold and snowy here at the IG offices. As you can imagine car events are few and far between this time of the year but looking at the extended forecast warm weather awaits on the horizon. Checking my calender the first car events are just around 6 weeks off which sounds like a long time but it will be here before we know it.

Let’s take a look at the week that was.
