SRT to be killed off…sort of

Fiat revealed it’s master plan for the next four years and the big news is that SRT is going away. No, performance vehicles aren’t going away. The Viper stays and gets a refresh in 2015. The Viper is a great performer but it’s expensive and that other American sports car performs better and is less than half the cost. The Viper has a tough hill to climb. Still, the fact that they didn’t kill it off all together is good.
Challenger
That brings us to this SRT going away business. It looks as if though SRT will cease to be it’s own production house and come back into the fold of Dodge. That means the refreshed Viper will not be called the SRT Viper but the Dodge Viper. Thank God our long national nightmare is over. That Challenger will get a redo in 2018 and the Dodge Caravan is going away. I’m sure soccer moms ever where are crying over their Ipads right now. I suppose the last bit of news is that an SRT Dart will arrive in the next few years. No word on exactly what that means but if you remember the last SRT economy car, the SRT-4 it was a potent little street fighter.

Loafers Car Club Car Show: part 2

We return to the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River today for part two of the Loafers car club car show. The nice big turn out allowed me to snap loads of photos and as it turns out I got quite a few decent ones. Enough talk and on with the photos.
aged-to-perfection
The patina look is hot right now. I’d say this one is just about aged to perfection.

Loafers Car Club Car Show

Nestled in along the river bluffs of the mighty Mississippi River lies a town made world famous by a man named Samuel Clemons. You just might know him by his other name Mark Twain. Every May the old historic district of the town hosts an event that fills the streets normally lined with tourist full of hot rods, muscle cars, and other assorted classics. The tourist district lined with shops, museums, and tons of character is the perfect setting for the Loafers Car Club Car Show.

Last year the show was held on the hill around a park in another section of town. Unfortunately like many Midwestern towns that portion of Hannibal had taken quite the economic downturn. That made the shiny show cars a bit of an odd foreground to the backdrop of the dilapidated and crumbling buildings. However the historic district is a much nicer place and I think the cars really shined with the quaint shops in the background.

Sunday Commentary: Happy Mother’s Day

In case you forgot it’s Mother’s Day so if you did forget you’ve still got some time to rush out and get something. There is your public service reminder of the week. What a busy weekend for the crew here at IG. First and foremost I was out at a couple shows this weekend. The first being the big Loafer’s Car Club show I previewed earlier in the week. The second show was kind of a fluke. I was driving, saw a pack of classic cars and decided to be a stalker and see where they were headed. Luckily it was only a block or so away when they pulled into another show. I have no idea what club or even where the show was but it was a nice little get together. I’ll have some photos from that show a bit later in the week.

In the meantime let’s do the week in review which has been absent recently. I guess you could say this week was a bit slower then normal for us here. It is to be excepted from time to time. In a way the start of car show season is a huge relief for me because now that regular new content will be coming in I do not have to hunt for videos, news, and any other info that we’ve been doing lately. Hopefully now for the summer these week in reviews will be filled with the original content you’ve come to expect from us.

Ferrari 250 GTO – The greatest sound in the world – Film Friday

While modern Ferrari’s have become bloated, complex and to a large degree somewhat soulless, no one will argue that vintage Ferrari’s from the 60s are anything but the stuff of dreams.

Check out this great short video of Derek Hill, son of F1 champion Phil Hill, talk about his Ferrari 250 GTO, one of the greatest cars of all time, and watch as he gives it a spirited drive on some gorgeous California mountain roads.
